Flora & Fauna
Due to the varied nature of the terrain a wide variety of plants thrive in a number of different habitats. The more open sunbaked areas support an astonishing variety of low coastal Fynbos vegetation which thrives on the poor sandy soil. The most prominent of which are the Proteas, including the King Protea and Pincushions which attract nectar feeding birds and insects, including the striking Sunbirds and the Cape Sugarbird. The wetter areas give rise to taller dense bush which in turn provides shade for species that thrive in damp shady conditions. The taller bush also provides cover for ground feeding birds like Cape Francolin.
The land that slopes down to the sea and receives the full blast of the salt laden winds is home to a huge variety of coastal plants, especially adapted to the conditions, including the blue daisy-flowered Felicia and the pink-flowered Lobostemon.
